SPRING/SUMMER RULES & REGULATIONS
FULL RINK GAMES
U9, U11, U13, U15/U18 will all be played at 5-on-5 using the full rink surface.
The SGBHL will be using all CBHA rules and regulations, please visit the CBHA website to become familiar with the current rule book.
Games will be 3 periods of 16 minute run time with the final 2 minutes being stop time. There will be a 5 minute warm up prior to the start of each game. If there is a 3-goal difference in the score, there will be no stop time.
If at the end of regulation the score is tied, there will be a 5 minute 3-on-3 period, followed by a shootout if necessary. The shootout will consists of each team choosing 3 shooters. If the game has yet to be decided after the initial 3 shooters, the teams will continue to go through the remainder of their rosters one shooter at a time.
Players are not allowed to change when high-sticking the ball (unless the other team touches the ball first).
Players are not allowed to change on an icing call.
Rosters have a maximum of 25 players.
Players must play 4 regular season games to be eligible for playoffs.
Players that registered in the competitive division cannot substitute down into the recreational division.
Players that registered as individuals in the recreational division are allowed to play up in the competitive division.
Coaches are expected to check game sheets to confirm who is playing in each game, along with who is playing goalie. They are to initial to confirm their rosters are accurate. Anyone caught with ineligible players on the game sheet will be responsible for team forfeits as well as potential suspensions.
SPLIT RINK GAMES
U5 and U7 games will be played at 5-on-5 using a split rink (half-rink) surface.
Girls games (U7/U9 and U11/U13) will either be 4-on-4 or 3-on-3 (roster number dependant) using a split rink (half-rink) surface.
Game will begin with 15 minutes of skills, drills and practice led by the coaches followed by 2 periods of 20 minute run time. As the season progresses, we will shorten the length of practice time, while increasing the length of game time.
All split rink divisions (except for Girls U11/U13) will have a buzzer every 3 minutes to indicate a line change.
After a goalie covers the ball on a save, the referee will blow their whistle, players will be expected to step back and allow the ball to be brought behind the net to begin play.
There will be faceoffs after goals.
All penalties will result in a penalty shot.
If the score is tied at the end of regulation, there will be a shootout to determine a winner. Coaches of each team will select one shooter for the sudden death shootout.
ADULT GAMES
Games consist of 3 periods. The first two periods are 16 minute run time periods with the last minute being stop time. The final period will be 13 minute stop time.
Run time will be automatic when a 5-goal difference occurs.
COED SPECIFIC RULES
Slap shots are not permitted. The stick blade cannot be raised above waist level. This rule is at the referee's discretion. If a foul occurs, it will result in the play being blown dead and a faceoff occuring in the defensive zone of the team whose player took the shot.
Parents/Spectators are no longer permitted to be on the floor during games. In the event of an injury or an incident where a parent is needed, they will be permitted onto the floor with the assistance of the team coaches.
Warning: All players and spectators need to be aware that the ball may leave the playing surface at any time. Serious injury can occur. Please stay alert at all times, including during warmup and after when play stops.
For most rules, the SGBHL will be using the CBHA rulebook for disciplinary measures.
